Posted By AURN, Tuesday, August 22, 2023
It is urgent that all AURN-represented nurses attend a Strike School as critical decisions are approaching! If you have not attended a strike school yet, please attend one of the upcoming virtual options!

Virtual Strike Schools
Thursday, Aug. 24 from 1700-1830
Sunday, Aug. 27 from 1200-1330
Monday, Aug. 28 from 1730-1900

Attend a Strike School Via Zoom
Meeting ID: 876 5129 3686
Passcode: 300410

Once you've had a chance to attend a strike school and/or speak with a Contract Action Team (CAT) member or other AURN leader, and you feel ready to make a decision: Complete the Strike Pledge Survey (Note: This is not an official strike authorization/vote.)

We want to remind everyone of the American Nurses Association Code of Ethics Provision 6 which states: "The nurse, through individual and collective effort, establishes, maintains, and improves the ethical environment of the work setting and conditions of employment that are conducive to safe, quality health care."

We are disheartened to report that management has continued to violate labor law.  We have been notifying them of unfair labor practices (ULPs) and demanding that they be rectified where they have occurred.  Be sure to learn more about your rights and protections to watch for and report ULPs to aurnlaborreps@oregonrn.org.

As a reminder of some of your essential rights under the Public Employee Collective Bargaining Act (PECBA):

  • Members of OHSU Management are not allowed to attend the strike school. Monitoring a strike school is against the law.
  • Management may not discipline, threaten you, or deny you the right to discuss negotiations and a potential strike while at work as long as it doesn't interfere with patient care or occur in patient care areas.
  • In areas where non-work related things occur, management cannot discriminate against union things from also occurring, such as a retirement card or birthday card in a nurses' station means that union fliers can be in a nurses' station or area.
  • Management is not allowed to ask you what you think of negotiations, final offers, a strike, your plans to strike or not strike, etc.
  • Management is not allowed to monitor/spy on union conversations in break rooms or other appropriate areas.
  • Brand new employees are protected to vote and go on strike. Prohibiting nurses from taking part during their Trial Service Period is against the law and management must refrain from any threats of this.
  • Current work rules must be maintained. Unilateral changes to current working conditions are not allowed without negotiation directly through AURN.
  • NO side bargaining. Members of management may not discuss possible proposals/ideas/solutions with individual nurses or groups of nurses. They must bring those proposals to the bargaining table.
