2018 ONA Endorsements

ONA’s Political Action Committees have endorsed these pro-nursing candidates based on a variety of factors including, voting record, support for nurse issues and overall alignment with ONA values and priorities.

2018 ONA Legislative Report

Oregon nurses helped lead and support a variety of successful and important policy issues during Oregon’s February 2018 short legislative session. Amid an election year, several ONA’s priority bills produced bipartisan compromise, leading to meaningful steps forward on prescription drug transparency, gun control, and health care reform, among others.

Oregon Voters Overwhelmingly Pass Measure 101

Thanks to your work, Oregonians overwhelmingly voted to pass Measure 101 and protect health care access for thousands of people in Tuesday’s special election. Throughout this campaign, nurses and ONA staff volunteered and turned out in record numbers, helping ensure thousands of families, children and seniors remain covered through the Oregon Health Plan.

Measure 101 passed with more than 61 percent of the vote, winning in 17 counties. This was truly a statewide victory that gave a clear mandate: Oregonians believe that everyone deserves access to affordable health care.

Oregon's Hospital Nurse Staffing Law

Thanks to ONA members’ support, the Oregon Legislature successfully passed improvements to Oregon’s Hospital Nurse Staffing Law in 2015. These much-needed improvements ensure that nurse staffing committees have the final say in hospitals’ staffing plans, increase state-led investigations and audits, enhance staffing plans’ transparency, establish reasonable limits on mandatory overtime, and create a mediation process for staffing committees to resolve impasses, among other changes.
