Now is the time to prepare for our next steps! The AURN Bargaining team and management met for mediation on Tuesday, July 11 and will meet again on July 19 & 26. The effect of the informational picket has been noticeable, management is continuing to bring us proposals on all items they owe to our team. Management is currently working on a new economic package we hope they will bring at one of our mediation sessions in the next two weeks for all members to consider. The teams exchanged many proposals, but no tentative agreements were reached on our highest bargaining priorities. We were dismayed to learn they continue to refuse our proposal around pandemic preparedness. Being unprepared for COVID-19 and refusing to learn from their mistakes is unacceptable. Also, we were particularly disappointed to learn that they still don't understand that we need better security for the Emergency Department and that asking our nurses to wand and pat down patients for weapons is unacceptable. Even if management isn't making major moves to reach an agreement, our AURN leaders and activists are preparing for next steps! You will see CAT members visiting all units with the updates below.
All AURN Nurses must update their information!
The most important next step in our campaign is to make sure every AURN nurse is receiving ONA emails and opt into text messages/emails to make sure you will be able to vote in our upcoming actions and next steps. It's critically important that we fix that right away. To win a strong contract, we need to be able to take actions quickly when needed. We especially need folks to opt-in to texting, so everyone can vote via text. Go here ASAP!
Make sure all shifts & all units have CAT members! If you or someone you know was inspired by the amazing collective action of our picket, please join the Contract Action Team! We have a meeting next week, but also quite a few options for attending in the following weeks. You'll need to notify us to join the CAT before attending the meeting. To join the CAT, email
aurnlaborreps@oregonrn.org or fill out our c
onsent to serve form. For next Wednesday's 5:30-7 p.m. meeting,
check out the flier or give it to someone you know who would be great at keeping your unit activated and involved in fighting for a fair contract!
Besides joining the CAT, we can also use more help on our Communications Committee, message a labor representative or
fill out a consent to serve form for that as well!
Mark your calendars: All members asked to attend in-person AURN Townhall meetings! It's time for us all to gather face-to-face and make critical decisions. Collective action takes physical presence! Mark your calendars now for August 1, 2, 3, & 4 and watch for fliers with locations and times!
Take photos with your coworkers with signs of support!(no patients, computer monitors or whiteboards in the background please) If you are willing to let us publicly share them, email to news@oregonrn.org. You and your coworkers might end up on our Instagram, blog, or fliers!
Ask your local small businesses to put up signs of support in their shop windows!Be sure to tell them about how we are fighting for patient safety for our entire community. If you need signs, be sure to check in with your CAT members or labor reps (aurnlaborreps@oregonrn.org)
Lastly, we are asking everyone in the OHSU community to show your solidarity! We are continuing our union colors days (Tuesday nightshift and Wednesday dayshift), but have reached the point where every day is a union solidarity day! Wear buttons, stickers, union colors, car signs, pass out fliers, and show your union pride every night and day of the week!
For questions, talk to your CAT members, AURN Bargaining Team, Board members, or email your labor representatives at aurnlaborreps@oregonrn.org
