ONA 2020 Dues Increase

Thank you for being a member of the Oregon Nurses Association. ONA is the most powerful voice for nurses in Oregon because of the collective strength our 15,000 nurses and health care workers. This spring has been one of the most challenging periods in many of our careers, and throughout the first wave of this international pandemic, ONA members have exhibited incredible professionalism and dedication to patients and coworkers. ONA nurses and allied healthcare workers are essential, and we have never been more proud to say we are ONA!

Despite the challenges we have already navigated together in 2020, we are also in a moment of incredible opportunity for nursing and healthcare professionals in Oregon. The essential care we provide and the vital role our voice plays in public health advocacy in the legislature have never been more critical. Our ongoing expertise, oversight, and guidance of practice standards in our facilities will continue to be essential, especially regarding improper reuse and storage of N95 and other pieces of PPE still happening today in some facilities. Our collective bargaining power has never been more urgently essential than now as we prepare for the second wave of outbreaks this fall and continue to bargain for the protections we need at work.

To continue to rise to the challenges we face and provide cutting-edge resources to members about COVID-19 and other public health and workplace issues, we must continue to grow. By modestly raising ONA dues effective July 1, 2020, ONA will grow in the following ways:

  • Hire a fourth Nurse Practice Consultant to provide guidance and expertise to ONA members on emergent practice issues and staffing standards;
  • Hire a Communications Specialist to sustain the record-breaking communication we’ve done this year – including building on our successful new ONA Facebook Live programs;
  • Hire two new Labor Representatives to continue to strengthen our collective bargaining, grievance, and internal organizing programs in facilities across the state; and
  • Hire an additional Organizer to continue to grow ONA’s membership.

At the February, 2020 meeting, ONA’s member-elected Board of Directors voted (as per Bylaws) to modestly increase dues for collective bargaining members from $94.72 to $102.58 per month (before constituent association and bargaining unit fees). This increase will allow us to expand member support as listed above. While the timing of this increase is sub-optimal, it is imperative that we continue to build ONA’s momentum in pursuit of our union and professional association goals.

The value of a strong collective voice for nurses has never been more profound than it is today. If you have any questions, please contact
