Welcome Deborah Riddick to the ONA Team

ONA isexcited to announce Deborah Riddick, JD, RN, has been selected to lead ONA’s legislative and healthy policy work as ONA’s new Director of Health Policy and Government Relations. A registered nurse and law school graduate, Deborah brings more than two decades of nursing and public policy experience to her new role and has practiced as a direct-care registered nurse, a nurse educator and a nursing professor; and as a director of health policy, analyst and advocate for state and local health care organizations.

“Deborah’s experience is unique. It combines bedside nursing and extensive leadership driving health care policy initiatives as a government affairs director,” said ONA’s Executive Director Martin Taylor. “She has dedicated her career to expanding access to high-quality health care and has proven she can bring stakeholders together to improve her community’s care.”

“This is a tremendous opportunity to build on the foundation you’ve established and spread nurses’ values throughout our communities and our health care systems,” said Deborah. “I look forward to working side-by-side with you to continue raising nursing standards and improving access to health care for all people.”

Deborah has worked with as a health policy analyst and advisor with the Michigan state legislature and Blue Cross Blue Shield. She recently served as director of policy and planning with the School-Community Health Alliance of Michigan and developed and managed public policy, engagement strategies and grassroots advocacy as the senior program manager for the Camden Coalition of Healthcare Providers in New Jersey.

Deborah is a licensed registered nurse in multiple states and is a founding member of the HHS/OMH Great Lakes Regional Health Equity Council.

She will join ONA’s team June 1.

Chris Hewitt, ONA’s interim director of health policy and government relations will continue in his role as political organizer."
