The Providence Hood River Memorial Hospital)/ONA bargaining unit bylaws have not been reviewed in over 5 and ½ years, and are in need of updating. Here are the highlights for proposed revisions as they occur in the Bylaws:
- Correct non-discrimination language – Update protected classes with current non-discrimination classes to match current laws.
- Add language recognizing and including Constituent Association Bylaws – Brings ONA PHRMH Bylaws into alignment with ONA Statewide Bylaws.
- Corrects outdated terminology for ONA Cabinet on Economic and General Welfare with the current descriptor “Labor Cabinet”.
- Simplifies Article 2 membership eligibility definition.
- Eliminates Article 3 Discipline from ONA/PHRMH Bylaws, issues of discipline to be addressed at the ONA statewide level, reduces the risk of possible Duty of Fair Representation (DFR) litigation.
- Proposes a once-per-month, two-dollar dues assessment to build an ONA/PHRMH specific treasury so that the ONA/PHRMH bargaining unit will have control of its own treasury so nurses can invest in building their bargaining unit strength.
- Expand language defining officer responsibilities: Clarifies specific responsibilities for officer roles.
- Clarify Executive Committee roles vs Negotiation Committee roles
- Defines Grievance Committee and Grievance Committee duties and process.
These bylaws were posted on each unit breakroom bulletin board at PHRMH on Jan 17. 2023 and will be available for review by the bargaining unit membership.
We will conduct an electronic vote starting Feb. 9 at 9 a.m. that will run until Feb. 15 at 5 p.m., with the results announced on Feb. 16.
