Cabinet on Nursing Practice and Research

The ONA Cabinet on Nursing Practice and Research is comprised of seven (7) members, four elected and 3 appointed by ONA’s Board of Directors. Each cabinet member serves for a two-year term. The cabinet is charged with generating effective approaches related to unlicensed assistive personnel, increasing use of quality indicators related to nursing practice, improve nurse staffing, develop a model for assessment of continuing competency, and increase effective approaches to safe patient handling and safe work environments.

Joining the Cabinet

On a yearly basis, cabinet members complete their term of office and others join. Here are the requirements and obligations for service on this cabinet:

  • Awareness of current trends in nursing practice
  • Develop expertise in an area of nursing practice relevant to the cabinet
  • Bring information on practice issues to the cabinet for consideration
  • Mandatory attendance (in person, via phone) at 80% or more of the cabinet meetings
  • Ability to regularly access e-mail

Meetings and Minutes

The scheduled meetings of the Cabinet on Nursing Practice and Research are approximately one face to face meeting and one 1-hour conference call each quarter. Members can review minutes upon request.
