The next steps explored are dreaming, visions, and types of power to provide resources to reaching one’s destination. Of necessity is the need for a framework of operations to address issues of diversity, equity and structural racism. Summarizing the opportunities of transformation are types of courageous conversations including with self and others moving to the courage to act and providing care for one’s self.

How much of what you do is actually required by your employer rather than the practice act? This session will review why you need a license to be an nurse, what does the practice act really require of nurses, who supervises the practice of nursing, and what is the independent scope of practice for nursing.

This presentation will outline the challenges and opportunities facing Oregon's nursing workforce, and show how healthcare workforce data can inform health policy.

State leaders and nurses and health professionals survey ideas potentially on the horizon for laws that raise the bar high for health care in Oregon.
106 - Workshop: Reclaiming Our Power: Building relationships & Self Determination for Health Equity		5/17/2022	5/17/2022	2:45 PM	5:00 PM	5/17/2022 2:45 PM - 5:00 PM Presenter: Alyshia Macaysa This two hour session focuses on the examination of power and its different forms which create or undermine life, culture, identity, and ultimately our ability to achieve health equity. Participants will join Alyshia Alohalani Macaysa, a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation health equity practitioner and Pacific Islander community organizer, in exploring the foundations necessary to create meaningful and sustainable community-centered movements. This session will challenge normative models of community engagement and definitions of power often rooted in white supremacy culture, and guide participants in creating their own vision and guiding principles for community-centered work.
107 - Workshop: Oregon Nurse Staffing Law: Lessons from the First Cycle of Surveys and The Global Pandemic		5/17/2022	5/17/2022	2:45 PM	5:00 PM	5/17/2022 2:45 PM - 5:00 PM Presenter: ONA Nurse Practice Consultants: Christy Simila, Jesse Kennedy, Matt Calzia, and Therese Hooft This workshop will identify: lessons learned through analysis of Oregon Health Authority hospital nurse staffing reports; gaps in nurse staffing practices during the pandemic; changes to the ONSL (HB 3016); and practices to improve patient care through provisions in the ONSL.

201 - Beyond Diversity: Addressing Racism in Nursing for the Good of the Profession		5/19/2022	5/19/2022	8:15 AM	9:45 AM	5/19/2022 8:15 AM - 9:45 AM Presenter: Martha Dawson, DNP, MSN, RN, FACHE This presentation will present the social, political, and economic case for nurses to lean in and promote real change in addressing how racism shows up in our profession. The nurses must face an awakening relative to racial and ethnic diversity, equity, equality, and inclusion (DE2I). When it comes to treating all nurses fair and equal, we can forget the oath of “first do no harm” and considering ourselves to be the “most trusted profession.” Although racism is not a public health crisis, it does lead to moral and physical distress that contributes to mental and physical stressors causing a health crisis for those that have to endure an assault on their spirit and well-being. Until nurses are ready to acknowledge that there are major problems in nursing education, practice, policy, and research, there will be no real change, and our discussions about nurses influencing the social determinants of health is a meaningless conversation. Additionally, learn how and why you will need to engage and partner with insurance payers, the IT department, and finance departments.
