ONA Convention and House of Delegates

New Dates: Sept. 22, 2020

To ensure the health and safety of our members through the COVID-19 pandemic, ONA has made the decision to postpone the ONA Convention and House of Delegates. It will now be held Sept. 22, 2020.

We took this decision very seriously and felt it is in the best interests of our members and our patients to move the convention to a later date. We will provide more details when they are finalized.

Important Information about Postponed Convention

  • Those who have registered for the convention will have their event registrations canceled and will be refunded their registration fees. We will open registration again at a later date and will ask everyone to register again at that point.

  • If you have reserved a hotel room, you must call to cancel your reservations as this will not be done automatically.

  • ONA constituent association delegates will not have to reapply to be delegates. However, everyone will have to register to attend the convention again once a new date and schedule of events is finalized.

Featured Speakers

ONA is excited to welcome special guest speakers to share their expertise and experiences.

Janet Haebler, MSN, RN

As Senior Associate Director for Policy & State Government Affairs with the American Nurses Association (ANA), Janet serves as a resource to the state nurses associations by monitoring and analyzing legislative and regulatory trends, sharing intel, and providing possible strategies and tools with which state affiliates can use to advance their legislative and regulatory agendas.

Throughout her almost forty-nine years’ experience in nursing, Janet has held numerous staff and leadership roles in a variety of settings: acute, long-term and home care, managed care, and academia.

For the past 19 years, she has been dedicated to the policy and advocacy arena; first at the state level before joining ANA. While with the New York State Nurses’ Association, she was responsible for the Practice & Government Affairs program; during which time, Janet and her team celebrated such legislative successes as title “nurse” protection and safe patient handling & mobility.  In addition to a number of other initiatives, her portfolio includes the number one issue for direct care nurses – safe staffing. Eleven years ago, Janet launched the American Nurses Advocacy Institute, a year-long mentored program designed to develop nurse’s political competence.

Janet completed her undergraduate degree in nursing at Russell Sage College in New York and master’s degree in nursing with a concentration in administration at Seton Hall University in New Jersey.

Call for Bylaws Amendments and Resolutions

The ONA House of Delegates (HOD) will be held Tuesday, May 19, 2020. During the HOD, delegates will review and vote on potential resolutions and proposed amendments to the ONA Bylaws. Before the House of Delegates can vote on a proposed amendment or resolution, it must be submitted to the bylaws committee for review.

Members can submit amendments up to 45 days prior to the HOD and the amendment will require two-thirds vote to pass. Any amendments submitted within 45 days of the HOD would require a 99 percent vote to pass.

The ONA Bylaws Committee will be meeting in October and November to review proposed bylaws amendments and determine whether to support them. If you would like to have an amendment reviewed for potential support, please submit the amendments as soon as possible. Amendments submitted closer to the HOD will be reviewed, but may not be given full support of the board.

To submit proposed bylaws amendments and/or resolutions, download the form linked below and email it to Whitney Wong at
