ONA Convention and House of Delegates

Sept. 22, 2020 - Virtual House of Delegates


To ensure the health and safety of our members through the COVID-19 pandemic, ONA made the decision to postpone the ONA Convention and House of Delegates.

The ONA House of Delegates will now be held virtually on Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2020. The start time and length of the event is TBD, but will occur between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.

The continuing education portion of the convention has been postponed until 2021. We took this decision very seriously and felt it is in the best interests of our members and our patients to move the convention to a later date. We will provide more details when they are finalized. 


Those who have registered for the convention will have to register again. ONA constituent association delegates will NOT have to reapply to be delegates. However, everyone will have to register to attend the virtual event. You can register to attend as one of two types of attendees

  • Elected Delegates (elected delegates and members of the ONA Board of Directors)
  • Observers (invited guests and members who are not elected delegates)

Both attendee types must register to attend.

What Issues will Delegates Vote on in 2020?

Delegates will vote on issues affecting all aspects of ONA, nursing and health care. Bylaws and resolutions proposed for our 2020 House of Delegates include but are not limited to.

Call for Bylaws Amendments and Resolutions

During the HOD, delegates will review and vote on potential resolutions and proposed amendments to the ONA Bylaws. Before the House of Delegates can vote on a proposed amendment or resolution, it must be submitted to the bylaws committee for review.

Members can submit amendments up to 45 days prior to the HOD and the amendment will require two-thirds vote to pass. Any amendments submitted within 45 days of the HOD would require a 99 percent vote to pass.

The ONA Bylaws Committee will be meeting in October and November to review proposed bylaws amendments and determine whether to support them. If you would like to have an amendment reviewed for potential support, please submit the amendments as soon as possible. Amendments submitted closer to the HOD will be reviewed, but may not be given full support of the board.
