Nursing Scholarships

ONA members have access to various scholarship opportunities.  The following scholarships are provided by ONA and/or special interest groups.

Centennial Scholarship

The fund was established in 2004 to commemorate the centennial of the Oregon Nurses Association. Scholarships are awarded to individuals who have been accepted and are enrolled in the nursing program of study. This scholarship is open to students from any accredited nursing program in Oregon and is given out two times per year in $1,000 awards. A subcommittee of the ONF Board awards the Centennial Scholarships.

NPO Scholarship

Nurse Practitioners of Oregon (NPO) supports the education of our colleagues whether they be RNs seeking to become an NP or an NP who is furthering his/her education. The NPO Scholarship is another very tangible way that NPO/ONA membership supports the nurse practitioners in Oregon and promotes professional growth of the NP community. If you or your colleagues are members of NPO/ONA and are going back to further your NP education, we encourage you to apply for these funds as soon as possible!

Smith Scholarship

The Smith scholarship was established through the contribution of Milton F. Smith of Roseburg. The endowment fund is administered by ONF. Scholarships are typically given in the amount of $1,000 to individuals enrolled in undergraduate baccalaureate or graduate nursing programs. A subcommittee of the ONA Cabinet on Education recommends individuals for award to the ONF Board.

Equity Scholarship

The Equity Scholarship was created to increase the racial and ethnic diversity of the nursing workforce in Oregon to more closely reflect the patient population. The program seeks to provide early financial support for applicants from underrepresented racial and ethnic groups enrolled in a nursing program. Applicants who self-identify as a member of an underrepresented group are encouraged to apply.

Huggins and Haggland Scholarship for Continuing Education

The Huggins and Haggland Grant for Continuing Education (HHCE) allows ONA members the opportunity to advance their career in the field of nursing by networking and gaining valuable knowledge through attendance and participation in continuing education conferences, workshops, advanced trainings and online programs.
