
Susan E. King, RN, MS, CEN, FAAN, was the long-time executive director of the Oregon Nurses Association and remains an advocate for RN and NP practice in Oregon and nationally. She continues a clinical practice in emergency nursing at a Portland area emergency department.
This award is to recognize an emerging nurse leader who has made a difference in the nursing profession in Oregon. Candidates should be an RN at an early stage in their leadership career and have shown leadership in their work environment, community or other areas.
Award Amount: $1000

Nominations for the 2024 award are open through March 15, 2024.
ONA is accepting both self-nominations and nominations of nurses from colleagues.

Award Eligibility
Candidates must be an ONA member with less than 10 years of nursing experience. Direct-care nurses are highly encouraged to apply or seek nomination.
Award Criteria
- Advances the nursing profession and quality care
- Mentors, precepts, orients, coaches, or teaches nurses in the practice of nursing
- Demonstrates leadership at the national, state or local level, which may include leadership in the areas of practice, community and public service, advocacy, supportive services or academic activities
