The Oregon Nurses Association (ONA) Nurse Leadership Institute (NLI) is an opportunity for you to attain your highest level of achievement as a leader in your profession, association, and your union. NLI is designed in service to ONA’s vision of a dynamic community of peers making positive change and responding to challenges in politics, practice, and labor.

Successful NLI graduates emerge with vital leadership skills and the ability to contribute to the overall goal of strengthening and diversifying the healthcare workforce, and further enhancing the voices of nurses and allied healthcare workers on the job.

This unique and intensive leadership program is built on an evidenced-based leadership model and the best practices of adult education.  Much more than a training program, the NLI is a year-long immersion experience that provides an opportunity to understand and develop your own leadership style, explore foundational leadership practices, build fundamental skills, and receive specific feedback and support.

This kind of in-depth leadership training program would cost thousands of dollars if provided by an outside vendor, but ONA is providing it FOR FREE to ONA members and allied health care workers.

Program Details

• The fourth cohort of the NLI will launch in 2021
  
• Sessions will be both in-person and virtual
• Continuing Nursing Education will be available
  
• Participants will complete an Action Learning Project with partners from within the cohort that focus on the theme - Equity in Nursing and Healthcare
• Mentors will help guide the participants through the program

NLI Graduates Leading the Way

NLI is free for ONA members and praised by former graduates as a foundational program that transformed their practice and personal lives. Recent NLI graduates have gone on to serve on the ONA Board of Directors, as community leaders and activists, and in key leadership positions throughout ONA and beyond.

We are excited for nurses and other health care workers join the next NLI cohort, developing the skills to help as they step into ONA leadership roles in the future.
