Wisconsin Supreme Court Reinstates Law; Union Coalition Files Federal Lawsuit

The struggles in Wisconsin continued this week as the Wisconsin Supreme Court overturned a judge's previous ruling, reinstating the state's controversial new collective bargaining law on Tuesday, June 14, 2011.  According to the New York Times, "The ruling was 4 to 3, split along what many viewed as the court’s predictable conservative-liberal line."

However, while this ruling is a setback to unions and the rights of worker, the battle is not over.  According to the New York Times, the following day, Wednesday, June 15, 2011, a coalition of unions filed a federal lawsuit to block a law that limits collective bargaining rights for public workers in the state. The unions, which represent teachers and state and city workers, say provisions of the law violate the Constitution by singling out only some public workers and not others.
