ONA Responds to Civil Unrest Following George Floyd Murder

Across Oregon and our country, we are living through pandemic as well as systematic racism that is a true public health crisis.

As nurses, we are called upon to care for black and brown patients who face lifelong, systematic barriers to health care access and to utilization. Too often, barriers exist even for people of color (POC) patients to be believed and heard.

We see the disparities in our health care system every day as we fight for our patients and advocate for the lifesaving care they deserve yet so often can’t attain.

The weekend of May 29-30, 2020, ONA held tight to our most core promise to always advocate for our patients. As Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. said, an injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. We stand with all those fighting to end systematic racism, racial violence, police brutality, and centuries of oppression. Black lives matter.
