2013 CNS Survey Report

Oregon Council of Clinical Nurse Specialists, a special interest group of Oregon Nurses Association and an Affiliate of National Association of Clinical Nurse Specialists, conducted a survey of CNSs in the state of Oregon in the early part of 2013. This particular survey occurs 10 years after the 2002 extensive survey of CNSs in the state.

This survey is unique because it assesses a group of CNSs within the western region of the United States where data about getting patients out of acute care quickly is known, but overall ratings are poor to fair regarding the state health care system. There is a very strong regulatory environment for CNS practice but a weak educational system to prepare CNSs despite demand. The survey findings reflect the "highs” and "lows” of CNS practice.
