Nursing Lost a Great Leader in Kathy Weldon, RN

On August 4, the Oregon Nurses Association was saddened to hear of the passing of Kathy Weldon, RN who tragically died after an automobile accident.

We count ourselves extremely lucky if at some time during our lives we happen again to meet a wonderful human being like Kathy.

Kathy’s zest for life and capacity to live life to the fullest was inspiring. Kathy loved nursing, her colleagues, her friends and family.

As a nurse, Kathy was supreme. Her relaxed, caring manner towards her patients was done as an expression of love as a nurse. Those who were close to Kathy will never forget her smiling face and gentle patient nature. As a work colleague, Kathy will be remembered as one of the best!

Kathy’s philosophy was don’t take yourself or life too seriously, smile a lot, and be nice to your patients, work colleagues and people you encounter in your daily life.

She will be missed by ONA staff, her nurse colleagues within GSRMC and the entire Samaritan System, she took an active role serving as chairperson on the professional nursing care committee (PNCC) along with other ONA committees. Kathy was a team player and a nurse leader who will not be forgotten.
