St. Vincent Planned Reorganization of the Post Partum and Labor and Delivery Units Background Information

On March 5, 2013, Providence St. Vincent Medical Center (Medical Center) notified the Oregon Nurses Association (ONA) and the Medical Center Maternal Child Division nursing staff of the plan to change the structure of the Labor and Delivery and Post Partum units.

The design expands and changes the existing two units into four units. Although the design of the units has been announced, the Medical Center has not notified ONA of the number of FTEs needed in each unit, or the impact this reorganization will have on staff. We have been informed that this information will likely be available the week of March 18.

For more information about the changes, please read the announcement with additional detail and meetings times and locations here. Click the following links to read the medical center’s power point presentation about the reorganization from open staff meetings and the Q&A created by the medical center from those meetings.

What is next? Your ONA staff representative and officers are gathering information from the Medical Center about these changes and formed a workgroup / negotiating team of nurses from each of the affected units / shifts to meet with the Medical Center and create guidelines about this process. Those guidelines will be created to work out a fair and understandable process for these changes. Nurses will be involved in this process and we will keep you informed as we know more. Please continue to check your bargaining unit webpage for frequent updates about the process and meetings.
