OHSU Contract Action Team Training Dates Set

CAT stands for Contract Action Team, the ones who make a good contract happen. OK, we know that all our nurses, whether they’re on the bargaining team, serving on a committee, helping out when they can, or just doing their best for their patients, contribute to the contract effort. The CAT team, however, makes it their special business.

CAT Training takes about three hours, and is being offered on two consecutive Saturday mornings in February. A free brunch is included. If you planned to be on the CAT, or are interested in learning more, please RSVP to Sam Gieryn at You only need to attend one training session.

The sessions will be held at Madison’s Grill, 1109 SE Madison St., Portland on:

  • Saturday, February 16, 2013, 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m., and
  • Saturday, February 23, 2013, 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

What does the CAT do?

The CAT communicates with and activates the AURN membership at key times in the bargaining process to facilitate a favorable settlement. The CAT participates in and promotes AURN bargaining related events.

What does the CAT look like?

The CAT looks like Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) nurses talking to other OHSU nurses on the phone and in the hospital about their professional and financial interests. When the CAT is excited it grows large. The CAT looks like OHSU nurses doing things as a unified organization.

Why a CAT?

A CAT is smart, if you want to move a democratic organization into action quickly and with power.

Please email Sam Gieryn directly at if you want to join the AURN’s CAT for negotiations this year. Then seriously consider attending our Membership Meeting and Dinner on January 30
