NYSNA to Disaffiliate from ANA

Friday, October 26, 2012 - The American Nurses Association (ANA) is disappointed but not surprised by yesterday’s reported action by the New York State Nurses Association (NYSNA) to disaffiliate from ANA. According to a news release, NYSNA’s membership body instructed their board of directors to disaffiliate from ANA. The ANA has yet to receive official communication from the NYSNA board about this action.

Despite protests to the contrary, it’s been apparent that this was the NYSNA board’s goal since last fall when they appointed a leader of National Nurses United to run the organization. It is unfortunate that NYSNA did not give all members a voice in breaking a 100-plus year affiliation prior to taking this action. We regret the impact this may have on NYSNA members who value their ANA affiliation and benefits.
