Government Relations Welcomes Jenn Baker as Political Communications Liaison

ONA is pleased to welcome Jenn Baker to the Government Relations team! At ONA, Jenn works directly with members to develop and promote ONA’s legislative and political agendas. Jenn started working at ONA over the summer, and has had a very busy first few months on the job.

With a bachelor’s degree in Political Science & Philosophy from the University of Portland, Jenn has long been interested in politics, and is passionate about getting nurses involved in the political process. Already, she’s been working to build groups of nurse activists around the state who are eager to engage in campaign work, and she successfully organized nurses in Portland and Eugene to make phone calls to nurses in Ohio to help defeat an anti-union ballot measure.

On the policy side, Jenn has carefully tracked the work of the four work groups focused on the Health Systems Transformation, which was the major piece of health reform passed by the 2011 legislature. This legislation, HB 3650, aims to refocus our health care system on primary and preventive care by creating a system of Coordinated Care Organizations (CCOs) that would provide carefully managed and integrated care to the state’s Medicaid population. As part of the work involved in creating this new system, the state has convened work groups on Medicare/Medicaid Integration, Global Budgeting, Outcomes, Quality, and Efficiency Metrics, and CCO Criteria. Jenn has worked to synthesize information from these work group meetings and to get this information out to ONA membership.

Before joining ONA she worked as a Field Director for a State Senate candidate during the 2010 campaign and a Legislative Aide for Senator Richard Devlin, ONA’s 2009 Legislator of the Year, during the 2011 legislative session.

With the 2012 campaign season just around the corner, ONA is very lucky to have Jenn on our team!
