SEIU 49 Represented Staff Hold Successful Strike at McKenzie-Willamette

Hundreds of SEIU 49 represented staff with support from community members and ONA members from Sacred Heart and Cascade Health Solutions, held a 24 hour picket in front of Tennessee based Community Health Systems (CHS) owned McKenzie -Willamette beginning on Wednesday the 17th at 7:00am. McKenzie Willamette ONA Nurses were unable to participate in the picket line because their contract is still in force but wore "Staff Unity" buttons and urged their nurse colleagues from other hospitals to support their colleagues.

"Health care is essential for working people. It is upsetting to see a for-profit profitable company trying to reduce healthcare for the lowest paid workers. ONA Nurses stand in solidarity with members of SEIU 49 to provide excellent healthcare" - Billy Lindros, RN, Sacred Heart Home Services.

"We showed Management today that we are stronger than ever! We'll continue this fight until the violation of our rights stops!" - Gail Kiefer, Housekeeper.

The strike was held to protest the hospital's unfair labor practices and protect quality care and quality jobs in Springfield. ONA Nurses opened bargaining on November 18th with CHS.

Thank you to all of the ONA members involved and who have shown their support!
