ONSC 2nd Annual Nurse Staffing Conference 2009

November 7, 2009
Lane Community College, Eugene
8:15am to 4:30pm (registration and vendors open at 7:15am)
Keynote Speakers: Monique Lambert, PhD and Pat Ebright, PhD, RN, CNS
This is the second state-wide conference focused on nurse staffing in Oregon. The main purpose of the conference is to continue to build knowledge related to the direct, indirect, and cognitive work of the nurse which needs to be reflected in a nurse staffing plan.  Other topics such as activities which augment or are synergistic to the nurse staffing plan will be explored.  A debate comparing and contrasting staffing by ratio versus by Oregon’s approach to nurse staffing will also be included.

  1. Identify the direct and indirect work of the nurse that should be included in the development of a unit-level or comprehensive nurse staffing plan.
  2. Evaluate various measures of nurse productivity and the link between these measures(s) and nurse staffing.
  3. Identify at least one additional (evidence-based) intervention that augments (is synergistic with) a nurse staffing plan.
  4. Discuss pros and cons of a ratio versus the Oregon approach to nurse staffing.
  5. Describe how nurse’s cognitive work affects nurse staffing.

Staffing Committees are encouraged to make posters showcasing the work of the group and their accomplishments for the past year and bring it to the conference. There will be a designated area set up for poster exhibiting.
