ONA Thanks Steve Rooney for Service and Welcomes New President Katy Cooper
The Oregon Nurses Association would like to thank Steve Rooney, RN, for his outstanding leadership during his tenure on the Board of Directors and as ONA President. Over the past four years, under Steve's leadership, ONA has grown as an organization, been an integral part of the National Federation of Nurses, affiliated with AFT and AFL-CIO, helped pass the first-in-the-nation nurse practitioner payment parity legislation, and as always, continued to advocate for nurses across the state at the negotiation table and in their practices.  While his time as president of ONA has concluded, we know he will continue to be a strong voice within ONA and a powerful advocate for his patients at the bedside.

Steve has worked hard to ensure nurses from Oregon have a voice so we can continue to advocate for our patients and provide the highest quality health care possible and we know he will continue to work hard for nurses across the country as the president of the National Federation of Nurses.

Steve Rooney, RN, receives a gift at the ONA 2014 House of Delegates in recognition for his outstanding leadership during his tenure as the ONA president.

We would also like to welcome new ONA president, Katy Cooper, RN!

Katy is an RN at Oregon Health & Science University, where she was the chairperson of the Association of University Registered Nurses bargaining unit for the past three years, leading the nurses through two successful contract negotiations and working hard to improve the bargaining unit's infrastructure while creating a strong working relationship with administration.

We look forward to the next two years with Katy as the ONA Board of Directors President and are excited about the strong leadership we have in place to help advocate for patients and to ensure the voice of nursing in Oregon is heard!
