Medication Errors and Inappopriate Prescribing

Medication errors and inappropriate prescribing are significant issue for patients, resulting in poor outcomes. Multiple studies have led to development of evidence-based guidelines for prescribing, dispensing, and administering medications, in efforts to minimize errors. Inappropriate prescribing has specifically been linked to costly poor outcomes in the elderly while administration errors plaque many hospital admissions, also leading to poor outcomes.

Many healthcare systems, professional organizations and societies have worked to develop guidelines to reduce the risk of inappropriate prescribing and medication error.

You can see the entire list of evidence-based practice guidelines at the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) National Guideline Clearinghouse here.
