Say NO to Huffmaster

Many Oregon RNs are being contacted by a company named Huffmaster soliciting for positions during a labor action somewhere in Oregon.

ONA’s recommendation is that you say no to Huffmaster’s solicitation for a temporary assignment , file a complaint if you are on the “do not call list” or decline to return their call.

Here are the facts:

Huffmaster is a strike breaking organization. Their website introduction is:

About Huffmaster

Huffmaster’s nationally recognized healthcare staffing and healthcare strike security services provide a single-source solution for the healthcare industry. We tailor the following services to your needs:

  • Contingency Planning
  • Temporary Replacement Healthcare Personnel
  • Strike Trained Security & Transportation Personnel

Huffmaster has been contracted by St. Charles Medical Center because they have failed to reach an agreement with their RN staff on a new contract. St. Charles administrators either truly fear a strike or they are attempting to create fear among the RN staff by engaging this firm.

Nurses held a very successful informational picket on Monday, September 10 with over 500 attendees. ONA represented nurses and the hospital have scheduled a mediation session for September 27 and ONA is hopeful that an agreement can be reached.

The nurses at St Charles have not agreed to the hospital’s proposals to eliminate the Rapid Response/Critical Care Float and Charge Nurse positions because of the negative effect on the quality of care these changes will have. Further, the severe changes in health benefits shift too much of a burden on RNs and their families. Finally, the hospital wishes to eliminate the successorship language of the contract while claiming that

they have no plans to sell or merge. This is dubious given the trend of health systems mergers all through the State and Nation.

Please support your colleagues’ in reaching a contract agreement that will protect patients and the community.
