ONA Endorses Suzanne Bonamici for Congress
The Oregon Nurses Association (ONA) has endorsed Suzanne Bonamici in the election for Oregon’s First Congressional District.
“The Oregon Nurses Association supports Suzanne because she is the advocate we and Oregon families need in Congress. She shares our priorities for changing our health care system and understands what we stand for as professionals and as care providers,” said Susan King, Executive Director of ONA. “She’s been an effective leader, not just as a legislator, but as somebody who has stood up for families over her entire career. She clearly the best choice to carry the agenda of Oregon’s families into Congress.”
Suzanne Bonamici responds to questions posed by ONA members and staff during her endorsement interview on September 29, 2011.
As a state legislator, Oregon nurses have always been able to count on Suzanne – and they know they can trust her as Oregon’s next Congresswoman to support nursing workforce development programs and further federal efforts to increase access to affordable health care. Suzanne’s background as a consumer advocate was central to the debate in the Oregon legislature on ensuring that state legislation did all it could to provide accessible, affordable health care to Oregon families and small businesses.
“I’m proud to have the support of Oregon nurses and I’ve always been proud to support them. Nurses are on the frontline of our health care system and they know what families are going through with high health care costs, especially in a tough economy,” Bonamici said. “Nurses need our support so that all of us can have their support when we need it most.”
Suzanne is also known as someone who cares very much about public health. In the legislature, Suzanne partnered with ONA by voting to protect children by banning the sale of baby bottles, sippy cups and reusable water bottles that contain bisphenol-A (BPA) and to prohibit the sale of recalled toys and children’s products.
ONA is proud to support the campaign, and looks forward to working to help elect Suzanne Bonamici as Oregon’s next Congresswoman. For more information, or get involved in the campaign email firstname.lastname@example.org.
