Oregon Senate Passes Measure Banning BPA from Baby Bottles and Sippy Cups

On April 7, 2011, a bipartisan majority in the Oregon Senate passed legislation to ban bisphenol A, a chemical that has been tied to cancers, endocrine disorders, and other health issues, from baby bottles, sippy cups and reusable water bottles. Senate Bill 695 also requires the state’s Women Infants and Children (WIC) Program to offer only infant formula that has exceptionally minimal levels of BPA, and it establishes the Oregon BPA-Free Advisory Group.

This bill will now head to the Oregon House for Consideration. Passing this legislation is a priority for ONA this legislative session. Special thanks to ONA members Maye Thompson, Anna Stiefvater, and Melissa Sanchez for the testimony they presented before the Senate Environment Committee in support of this important legislation.
