Cascade Health Solutions Goes after Nurse, Union Rights

Cascade Health Solutions (CHS) a private, non-profit organization providing hospice, home care, occupational medicine, behavioral health and chronic illness management services, employing 18 nurses with long years of service within its staff of 130. These Nurses have been represented by ONA for decades and have successfully bargained two previous contracts directly with CHS managers. This year it seems, everything has changed. CHS hired an anti-union chief nursing manager and a labor relations consultant to speak for them in negotiations. All the Union’s bargaining proposals were rejected without discussion. CHS wants the Union to "go away”. CHS is proposing to eliminate the entitlement of fair share and make optional payments to ONA and also proposed a reduction in retirement benefits and a wage freeze for the coming year. CHS says they are concerned about finances, but the Union disagrees saying "It’s all about CHS wanting to control Nurses and break the Union”.

Several prominent leaders in the area have written letters to Cascade Health Solutions or to the local newspaper, urging continued negotiations to come to a solution that is beneficial to all sides involved.  Read the letters below:
