2010 Psychiatric Mental Health Reimbursement Survey

Reimbursement for services provided by advanced practice nurses has historically been an important issue for the Nurse Practitioners of Oregon and Oregon Council of Clinical Nurse Specialists groups within the Oregon Nurses Association.

We are attempting to find a legislative remedy for payment decisions made by health plans that reduce payment to certain provider types irrespective of the patients they serve. In order to approach the Oregon legislature in 2011, we must be able to provide data which shows that NPs and CNSs in psychiatric-mental health practice care for patients who are as complex as those cared for by psychiatrists, and that your therapy is similar to theirs. Legislators will need to be convinced that reimbursement decisions made by some health plans in the summer of 2009, which slashed payments to all "non-physician” providers, were not based on clinical data and are not in the best interest of people with mental illness.

Please assist us in building the data set that will support our work on your behalf. We understand that answers to questions may require some research into your billing records and have tried to make this survey as easy to complete as possible. However, we need accurate data about your billing codes and reimbursement.
