Sacred Heart Nurses Vote by Overwhelming Majority to Ratify New Contract

RNs voted by an overwhelming majority to accept the new contract. The bargaining team and the contract action nurses did an excellent job of spreading the word on the vote. At 9pm on July 14, voting closed with a record high turnout. Great work!

Per HR, the first 4% wage increase and increased differentials will go into effect on our upcoming paycheck. In situations where contract negotiations go beyond the contract expiration date (June 30, 2010), there is retro pay for the wage increase from the date of ratification to June 30. There is no retro pay for the wage increase in this case because we expediently reached a tentative agreement prior to the expiration.

HR has proposed delaying the implementation of the certification pay in order to accommodate the new payroll system. This was not mentioned by management at the table and the contract language does not provide for this delay. We will keep you posted.

Over the next few weeks, our team will be reviewing the contract closely to make sure it accurately reflects the agreed upon language from negotiations. Once that is complete, our team and management will sign the final copy. Then we will print the new contracts and make them available to RNs. We will also be holding contract trainings on the new contract. If you would like to learn more about the changes to our contract or are interested in being a unit rep, please stay tuned for notices on the upcoming training.

Thank you to all the nurses who participated in the contract campaign. Your support of the bargaining team and strong demonstration of solidarity made this contract a success. Well done everyone!
