Show Support for SEIU Workers at McKenzie-Willamette

On July 1, 2010, from 2-6pm, the members of SEIU and the community are planning an Informational Picket with a Rally at 5 pm to stand up for a fair contract. You can help support them by attending the 5:00 pm Rally!

During the last negotiations at McKenzie-Willamette between ONA and Community Health Systems (CHS), the multibillion-dollar for-profit corporation and owner of McKenzie-Willamette Medical Center, CHS had proposal (#25) which was titled "BENEFIT MODIFICATION AND/OR TERMINATION”. What the Hospital, via Community Health Systems, proposed was that during the term of the Agreement (had the Association agreed) CHS could alter or eliminate the Health Insurance and/or Retirement provisions of the contract—and the Association would NOT BE PERMITTED TO BARGAIN THE IMPACT of these changes! If this proposal was accepted the Hospital could have, the day after we signed the contract, suspend or alter both your Health Insurance and Retirement, and the Association would have been unable to prevent this action.

Thanks  to the support of the bargaining unit leadership and all of the nurses, (#25) was removed from the contract!

Now CHS and the hospital are proposing the same thing in the negotiations with SEIU.  Show your support by joining the SEIU rally.  This is not a work stoppage. Come out before work, after work, on breaks, or on your day off.

The rally to help raise awareness about ongoing contract issues is:

July 1 at 5:00 pm in front of the McKenzie Willamette ER entrance .

Join your colleagues and show your solidarity!

"When we negotiated with CHS, they wanted us to eliminate all of our contractual protections around health insurance and retirement benefits. We didn’t let that happen and neither should you. My fellow Nurses and I stand behind the members of SEIU." -Rick Bitler, ONA Nurse & Bargaining Unit Chair for ONA at MWMC

ONA will also be back in negotiations with McKenzie-Willamette at the end of this year and we must all stand unified!
