Hundreds of nurses will rally at the Oregon State Capitol in Salem on Tuesday, February 14, 2017 to advocate for our patients and advance Oregon nurses’ practice.

Join hundreds of nurses and nursing students at the State Capitol in Salem.

ONA will provide resources, materials and training to all attendees. First-time participants are welcome. ONA Nurse Lobby Day is open to all ONA members and student affiliates (Oregon Student Nurses Association members).

  • Meet your state legislators
  • Learn more about 2017 legislative issues that affect nurses and our patients
  • Learn how to effectively lobby decision makers
  • Advocate for priority legislation and issues like patient health care access and nurse provider and instructor incentive programs
  • Receive continuing nursing education contact hours

It’s vital that we have nurses represented in the discussions and decision about the issues that matter most to us this legislative session.

Continuing Education

Learners can earn up to 3.5 continuing nursing education contact hours.

Oregon Nurses Association is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.

Criteria for Successful Completion

In order to obtain a Certificate of Successful Completion for this activity, the learner must complete the following criteria:

  1. Check-in and sign the Verification of Attendance Form
  2. Attend the morning training sessions and the meetings with your legislators
  3. Complete and submit the online evaluation form within 30 days of the event

Participants who successfully complete the above requirements will receive a Certificate of Successful Completion from ONA for the contact hours claimed during the evaluation process. Participants should only claim the sessions which were attended in full.

Schedule of the Day

On Feb. 14, you should plan to arrive between 8am – 9am the Micah building at the First United Methodist Church at 680 State St, Salem.

Attire

Please plan to wear business attire and plan to wear comfortable shoes for the short walk to the Capitol.

Location and Parking

On Tuesday, Feb. 14, please plan to arrive at the Micah building at the First United Methodist Church at 680 State St, Salem between 8-8:30 a.m. to pick up a parking pass and check in for the day. ONA will subsidize parking for Nurse Lobby Day participants, with a suggested cash donation of $5 to cover the rest of the cost. You can plan to pick up a pass from staff outside of the Micah building and allow enough time to park and return to the event space by 9 a.m.

Event Mobile App

We’re making every effort to improve our environmental impact and move closer to a paperless event this year for ONA Nurse Lobby Day. This also allows us to provide you with the most up-to-date information throughout the day.

Next week, you will receive an email with a link and download instructions so you can download the ONA app on your smartphone or tablet prior to Feb. 14. Please be sure to download and login to the mobile app from a location with a good wi-fi connection before the event to ensure a smooth download and experience.

The app includes all of the materials you need for the day, from legislator bios to your group's schedule for the day. For those who do not have smartphones, a limited number of paper packets will be available.

Travel and Lodging

If you are traveling 100 or more miles one way to Salem, mileage and hotel reimbursements is available. We are encouraging carpooling and room sharing. For room reservations, please contact one of the hotels listed below and make your own reservations. Reimbursement forms for expenses should be submitted to ONA after the event.
