Presentation

Current Local, State, and National Issues that Impact CNS Practice

The program will provide updates on the following initiatives that affect CNS Practice:

  1. Revision of the 2004 Statement of Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) Practice and Education Statement by a National Association of CNS (NACNS) Task Force. Proposed direction will be reviewed, local CNS responses will be solicited, and future opportunities for official comments and approval will be outlined by Sherri Atherton MS, RN, CNS-BC, CIC, who is participating on the NACNS Task Force.
  2. The role of the CNS in the management of chronic conditions will be presented by Polly Hansen, RN, MN, CNS, CCNS, CCRN, PCCN I CNS – Critical Care.
  3. Potential legislation that could affect CNS practice at the VA will be presented by Ann Busch MS, RN, ACNS-BC-PP, FAAN.

By the end of the presentation, the CNS attendees will be able to:

  1. Describe 2 key changes being recommended to the CNS Statement on CNS Practice and Education.
  2. Identify 1 future opportunity for providing feedback on the CNS Statement on CNS Practice and Education.
  3. Describe the role of the CNS in managing chronic conditions.
  4. Discuss VA Full Practice Authority.

Who Can Attend?

Any CNS or CNS graduate nursing student in Oregon recognized by the Oregon State Board of Nursing is welcome to attend.

Any CNS in Oregon, in a graduate nursing program, and/or recognized by the Oregon State Board of Nursing is welcome to attend. CNS students are also welcome to attend, space permitting.

Continuing Nursing Education Contact Hours

Learners can earn up to 1.0 continuing nursing education contact hours.

Oregon Nurses Association is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.

Requirements for Successful Completion of this CNE Activity

In order to obtain a Certificate of Successful Completion for this activity, the learner must complete the following criteria:

  • Sign the Attendance Form upon arrival to the meeting
  • Attend the presentation portion of the meeting
  • Complete and submit the online evaluation form by May 12, 2017

Any participant who has NOT claimed their contact hours by May 12, 2017 will NOT receive a Certificate of Successful Completion.
