ONA Values Statement

The Oregon Nurses Association and its members are dedicated to treating and protecting the sick and injured and responding when human rights are threatened. The American Nurses Association’s Code of Ethics with Interpretive Statements clearly establishes ethical standards for nurses and nursing organizations and outlines these commitments to patients and to society.

Under the code of ethics, individual nurses are called to collaborate with the public to protect human rights and professional nursing organizations are called to articulate nurses’ values to the public. These values include respect for the inherent dignity of all people, advancing human rights for all individuals, promoting a culture of safety and making a persistent commitment to social justice.

ONA’s vision outlines our work as a dynamic community of peers organized to affect change and respond to challenges in politics, practice and labor.

When faced with a challenge, we must defend our values and affirm our commitment to uphold our code of ethics and address unjust systems and structures.
